CHICAGO — Chicago Public Schools employees will have to take unpaid days off this year.
CPS CEO Forrest Claypool announced three furlough days in the midst of a massive financial crisis. The first will be on March 25, which is Good Friday.
School is now canceled for that day. Other days fall in April and June. The furlough days are expected to save the district $30 million.
The district faces a billion-dollar budget deficit and has already laid off some employees.
