The Chicago police will be working overtime to help combat the city’s violence.

The plan is called the “Summer Sure Overtime Initiative.”

CPD has canceled days off on weekends for dozens of officers in certain high-crime neighborhoods.

The plan is to saturate the city’s most violent areas on the south and west sides from Friday to Monday 6pm to 3am.

This is at least the third consecutive spring that the department has turned to overtime  to try to stem the rise in violence when the weather gets warmer.
