CHICAGO -- At the finish line just a few short steps from the police memorial wall, new strides were taken to remember the CPD officers who paid the ultimate price.

Phil Cline from the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation says nearly every person in Saturday’s 5k race has a connection to someone killed or injured in the line of duty -- and for those like Mary Lou Badus, who lost her daughter, Tina, while off-duty in 2010, the pain, still very real.

Today, the wall holds 572 names of those Chicago officers killed in the line of duty. The race raises money to help the family’s left behind, as well as officers wounded who can no longer work.

What started with just a few hundred people 11 years ago now has thousands, a show of support for those who just wanted to serve.
