LINCOLNSHIRE, England — An orphaned baby seal was rescued by a bird-watcher after getting stuck in the mud.

The seal was lost in a natural reserve in England. The birdwatcher discovered it after seeing a herd of cows investigating the pup.

The five-day-old seal’s mother was nowhere to be seen.

Officials say it was dehydrated and hungry, but should be OK.  They believe it became stuck in the marsh after being swept in by the tide.

It will be released back into the wild in September.
