ROCHELLE, Ill -- Some of the first responders and authorities working in tornado-damaged Illinois have lost their own homes.

Roughly 30 homes were damaged in Rochelle. Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle says his home was one of them.

VanVickle has only been on the job for about four and a half months. He says his family has been out here for six generations and last night they lost just about everything but their lives.

VanVickle’s home was destroyed in last night’s tornado. His family was not home at the time. They are all safe.

Sheriff VanVickle was at work almost immediately after the storm tore through the area. He says a number of his relatives’ homes were also destroyed.

Through it all though, he loves his job any love serving the people of this county.
