CHICAGO — State police are awaiting toxicology reports for the driver who hit and killed a construction worker on the Tri-State Tollway near O’Hare International Airport.
The worker has been identified as 59-year-old Frank Caputo. He is a father of three.
The crash happened about 10:15 p.m. Friday in the northbound lanes near the interchange with I-90. A car crossed into closed lanes and hit the worker and an empty van in the construction zone.
The driver suffered minor injuries. The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
Pending the toxicology report, the driver could face up to a $10,000 fine, a suspended license and possible jail time.
