Three children, including a 4-year-old girl, are in the hospital after a fire happened inside their apartment on Chicago’s South Side.

The fire was in a bedroom of a second floor apartment on the 1000 block of West 76th Street at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A neighbor says the 4-year-old girl was badly burned when her bed caught fire.

The children’s grandmother told WGN’s Randi Belisomo, that the child’s 16-year-old sister ran screaming to neighbors for help.

Neighbors say they heard her scream: “My sister is on fire!”

They also helped put out the fire as emergency crews arrived.

A neighbor says the parents were not home, but the mother says the children’s father was there.

The 4-year-old girl is in critical condition with burns over 60% of her body at Comer Children’s Hospital.

The victim’s older sister and 10-year-old brother suffered minor injuries. They are in good condition at the same hospital.

Officials have not confirmed what caused the fire.
