CHICAGO — Chicago police are investigating after stolen mail was discovered in a vacant hotel room in the Loop.

Police responded to the Virgin Hotel, located at 203 North Wabash Avenue, just after midnight Tuesday.

WGN News cameras captured police bringing evidence out of the hotel room, which included postal property and different electronic devices.

No other information has been provided at this time.

Area three detectives are investigating, along with the US Postal Service.

A spokesperson for USPS released the following statement Tuesday morning:

Postal Inspectors and Chicago Police have launched an investigation this morning into which individual(s) possessed Postal property at that downtown hotel room, how they came into its possession, and what specific criminal activity they may have used it for. 

Anyone affected by mail theft, mail fraud, or any other criminal activity using the mail is strongly encouraged to file a local police report and to call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.
