CHICAGO — A man died Friday night after intentionally going onto tracks along the CTA Brown Line and touching an electrically-charged rail.

The CTA released a statement Tuesday that said, “a preliminary review of camera footage shows that this person intentionally went down into the tracks and later made contact with the third rail.”

The Chicago Police Department originally launched a death investigation into the incident where the man was thought to have fallen onto the tracks in River North.

Police originally said the 32-year-old man fell onto the tracks at the 300 block of North Wells Street Brown Line station around 10:22 p.m. and made contact with the third rail.

According to CPD, the power was shut down and the fire department was on scene providing medical assistance

The man was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead a short time after.

The power was restored to the station and all operations have returned to normal.
