CHICAGO — A man and a woman are dead after they were shot Friday afternoon on the West Side of Chicago, according to police.

The Chicago Police Department said the man, 36, was driving in the 1900 block of West Jackson Boulevard when they were both shot and he crashed into a tree.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The woman, 29, was originally taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition Friday, but she was pronounced dead at the hospital Saturday, according to an update from CPD.

CPD Superintendent David Brown said according to an initial investigation, the shooting appears to be gang-related.

Malcolm X College was temporarily placed on lockdown while police were investigating Friday.

No arrests have been made and the incident is under investigation by detectives.
