5 people injured in shooting outside Chatham liquor store

CHICAGO — Five people were injured in a shooting Friday night on the city’s South Side, according to Chicago police.

Police said a group of people were standing outside in the 800 block of East 79th Street just after 8:45 p.m. when an unknown gunman opened fire and struck five people before fleeing the scene.

  • A 50-year-old woman was struck to the right arm and taken to University of Chicago Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 50-year-old man was struck to the left ankle and taken to University of Chicago Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 43-year-old man was struck to the right shoulder and taken to University of Chicago Hospital in stable condition.
  • A man of an unknown age was struck to the right arm and taken to University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.
  • A woman of an unknown age was struck to the left thigh and taken to University of Chicago Hospital in stable condition.

There is no one in custody and the shooting is under investigation by Area Two detectives.
