CHICAGO — A 31-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the Loop Saturday afternoon, according to police.
Police said the woman was on the sidewalk in the 400 block of South Wacker Drive at approximately 4 p.m. when an unknown man approached, revealing a knife and stabbing the woman in her upper back.
The man fled southbound on Wacker Drive and the woman was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead.
Police are looking for the suspect, who fled on foot immediately after the crime.
“We suspect this likely is a homeless person that secreted himself in the bushes and came out and committed this heinous crime,” CPD Supt. David Brown said.
The stabbing happened near multiple homeless camps, as police were unsure if the victim was associated in anyway with the nearby camps.
To people in the area, she was just a random woman walking by, just a block from Willis Tower and across the street from some of the city’s most prominent law firms.
Police said more details about the victim will be released after her family is notified.
The incident is under investigation.
