CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed on a porch in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.
Police said two men walked up to the home near Lexington Street and Springfield Avenue just before midnight and started shooting.
The teen was hit in the head and died at the hospital. He was later identified as Dajon Gater, and died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
“It’s getting bad around here. I’ve been here 24 years and it’s getting real bad. I don’t know what’s going on,” resident Floyd Moore said.
For another local resident, more action from both police and the community is needed to help curb the violence.
“It’s going to take a lot for people to stand up and for police to do their jobs foremost,” Paul Hayes said.
For Floyd Moore, the violence nearby is not going to deter him from the way he lives his life.
“I’m going to sit on my porch and do what I want. I don’t bother nobody and I’m not going to let nobody bother me,” Moore said.
Police are still looking for the two gunmen.
