Chicagoans are paying tribute to Nelson Mandela by sharing memories of his visit to Chicago.
Mandela died yesterday at the age of 95.
The South African consulate has created two books for Chicagoans to send their condolences to the Mandela family and people of South Africa.
“At this sad time, of the departure of former President Nelson Mandela, a book of condolence will be open at at two locations:
1. The Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa, 200 South Michigan Avenue, Suite 600, Monday through Friday, 9-13 December 2013 between the hours of 11:00am and 3:00pm.
2. Harold Washington Library, Winter Garden, 400 South State Street, Saturday, 7 December 2013, 10:00am – 5:00pm, Sunday, 8 December 2013, 1:00pm – 5:00pm, and Monday through Friday, 9-13 December 2013, between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
For those who are not able to stop by the Consulate, we invite you to sign the electronic condolence book for Former President Nelson Mandela. All electronic messages will be added to the official book of condolence. To leave your message, please.”
