A section of Cicero Avenue in Chicago may be renamed in honor of the late, South African President Nelson Mandela.

State house lawmakers passed a bill Friday to establish “Mandela Road.”

It would run from Roosevelt to Grand.

The sponsor of the legislation, Representative Lashawn Ford, says Mandela stood for hope and change, and he wants to bring that message to his district.

The bill now heads to the senate.
