CHICAGO — A sea of green as far as the eye could see: The 61st annual St. Patrick’s Day parade drew a huge crowd — nearly half a million people lined Columbus Street from Balbo through Grant Park.
From bagpipes to Irish dancing, everyone had their own parade highlight.
The WGN float was in the mix; our Tom Negovan, Amy Rutledge and Sarah Jindra waved to the crowd.
But the St. Patrick’s Day festivities started much earlier this morning, with the dyeing of the Chicago River.
The Pluber’s Union uses 45 pounds of an eco-friendly vegetable dye to color the water, a tradition for the last 50 years.
About three hours in length, the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day parade is one of the largest in the country – and it didn’t disappoint.
