CHICAGO – A crackdown on violent crime and drugs in Chicago brought together local and state police, the FBI, DEA and Homeland Security, for a joint operation in Chicago this weekend.

Officers flooded three high-crime zones with help from the state and federal agencies, making an all-out effort to target violent gangs in the city’s most at-risk neighborhoods on the West and South Sides.

Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the crackdown was meant to send a message to gangs and criminals that crime is not tolerated, and said it successfully cut shootings by more than 40 percent.
