CHICAGO -- A man was killed by Chicago police after he shot two others, one fatally, in the city's Homan Square neighborhood.
Officers were responding to a call of gunfire around 12:25 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Harrison Street and Central Park Avenue.
Upon arriving, officers saw a man shooting another man. They then exited their vehicle to engage the shooter.
The officers then shot the shooter, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man's sister identified him as Cleotha Mitchell. She says police shot the wrong man. Mitchell leaves behind two daughters.
Investigators say the man fatally shot by police had shot two men. One of the men was killed and the other was injured with a gunshot wound to his arm.
According to police, a weapon was found at the scene.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
The Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA) is investigating the officer's use of force in the shooting.
