CHICAGO -- Tonight police and the communities they serve are getting together to talk and see each other somewhere other than a crime scene.

The Salem Nights festival in the Pullman neighborhood was already planned but it certainly took on a whole new meaning after the events of this week and last night in Dallas. Tonight was supposed to be about fun and coming together as a community, but it’s also about the community coming together with police.

Just a little north of Salem Nights, father Michael Pfleger leads his weekly peace march to bridge differences between those who protect us and those who need to be protected.

Peace is why the community gathers, peace is why police want to be a part of the community.
