CHICAGO —  Memorial services begin Wednesday for Chicago police Officer Andrés Vásquez Lasso.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn, located at 4727 West 103rd Street.

A funeral mass for the fallen officer will be held Thursday at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 South Western Avenue, at 10 a.m.

Vasquez-Lasso was killed in the line of duty last week while responding to a domestic disturbance on Chicago’s South Side.

Several current and former alderman and FOP President John Catanzara attended the visitation.

“Definitely it’s a gut punch,” Catanzara said. “No one is ready for, especially at that young age, when you’re going about your career as a flight attendant and you get a call you have to come back to Chicago, your husband was shot, and find out he died. That’s tragic. It’s tough.”

“Officer Lasso is exactly what we want on CPD and to think to be so young, to have a life ahead of him with a beautiful wife, it’s terribly sad,” 19th Ward Ald. Matt O’Shea said.

A long line of first responders wrapped around Blake-Lamb Funeral home, some from across the country.

“July 7, 2016, we lost 5 officers downtown Dallas,” Steven Shivers with the Dallas Police Department said. “Over the next two weeks, we had five funerals. That’s when I met Boston, Chicago and New York City cops that came to support us in our worst of times.”

Members of the Brotherhood for the Fallen traveled to pay their respects and show solidarity in this time of grief.

On Wednesday, several Chicago restaurant owners came to police headquarters to provide a meal for 400 first responders.

It was organized by We Empowered Women, Josephine’s Southern Cooking and Bibbs Consulting, among others.

“We felt like today is the day, the service is tomorrow, we feel like this is a day of uplifting and encouraging the whole staff and let them know the city is wrapping their arms around them during this time of loss,” Victor Love with Josephine’s Southern Cooking said.
