He was reunited with his family and taken to Swedish Hospital for an evaluation.
The father’s wallet had been left inside the vehicle and a card had been used without his permission at a gas station in Chicago.
Video surveillance from that exchange was used to track down Gutierrez him down.
A member of the Joliet Police Department assigned to the FBI task force and other agents were returning to the Bridgeview Police Department and located an individual who matched the suspect’s description in Harlem and Archer avenues in Summit.
Gutierrez was taken into custody shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning. He’s being held in the Cook County Jail on a $500,000 bond and is expected back in court Dec. 11.
Police said he could be transferred to state prison because the Illinois Department of corrections had issued a warrant for him for parole violation. He was also wanted on charges of retail theft in both Cook and Grundy counties.
