CHICAGO — About a dozen people are displaced from their homes after an apartment building caught fire on the city’s West Side early Saturday morning.

Chicago Fire said an apartment building at Ferdinand Street and Leamington Avenue on the West Side. Police reported the Red Cross was present to help those whose homes were affected.

No injuries but there was reportedly significant damage to the property. There is currently no identified cause of the fire and police are currently investigating the incident.

A neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said they were coming home from work when they saw the flames from the house.

“You could see the sparks from the fire going down the street,” the neighbor said. “It was just crazy.”

The neighbor said he hopes people come together to help those affected by the fire.

“I can’t believe it because I know them,” they said. “12 people before Christmas. That’s a lot to handle, you know? I won’t wish that on nobody.”
