Popovich won with 159 first-place votes and 380 points, and first-year Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek — who starred at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange — placed second with 37 first-place votes and 339 points.
Popovicih guided the Spurs to the league’s best record (62-20) in winning the honor for the second time in three years. He only won the award for the 2002-03 season.
