Chicago’s 24 beaches officially open today for the summer season.
But there’s a warning about swimming. Lake Michigan’s water temperature is in the low 50’s, colder than normal for this time of year.
Health experts are warning you not to jump in quickly and not to linger in the water.
There’s a risk of hypothermia, which could become deadly.
Two men died in the Lake just 25-feet from the shore earlier this week. It’s believed they underestimated the danger of the cold water.
For right now, the experts say, it might be best just to get your feet wet.
