cellphones while driving

Putting a cellphone up to your ear while driving will be illegal all across Illinois if Governor Quinn signs a new bill; the State House passed it and sent it to the governor Wednesday.

Chicago already outlaws hand-held cellphones while driving.

A statewide ban would come with a $75 fine for first-time offenders, steeper fines for repeat offenders.

Some lawmakers say banning cellphones and texting while driving is not enough; they want laws against all sorts of driver distractions, including eating while driving.
