PALATINE, Ill.– It’s been more than 50 –years since families have been able to pitch a tent and camp out in the Cook County Forest Preserve.

That is changing later this month as the first of five new and improved sites open across the county.

Just a couple of miles from Cook County civilization a whole new world is opening up in the forest preserves.

County President Toni Preckwinkle shows us the first look inside the new camping experience at Camp Reinberg.

Inside the large cabins– heat and A.C., a private bathroom and shower, room to sleep 10– the smaller cabins sleep six.

There are five tent/RV slots with electric and water and for those looking to get back to nature– 15 tent sites designed to stay dry.

All sites come with picnic tables and fire pits.
