An autopsy is scheduled Sunday for a 20-month-old boy who died after suffering severe burns and trauma.

Adonta McCoy succumbed to his injuries Saturday.  Paramedics brought him to the hospital Thursday with burns to his face and chest.

Authorities would not say how he suffered those burns, only that there was not a fire in the home in the 6900 block of South Cornell Avenue.

Vernon Henry has been charged with murder in the child’s death.  His relationship to the boy is not clear.

The Illinois Department of Child and Family Services was investigating the mother for allegations of abuse related to the incident, but she was released without being charged.

The child welfare agency said it has not had any prior contact with the family.

Henry will appear in bond court Sunday morning.
