Residents asked to evacuate as crews battle brush fire in Alsip

ALSIP, Ill. — Fire crews are battling a brush fir in suburban Alsip.

The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon near the 3800 block of W. 124th St,

The police department is asking for residents on Joalyce Drive  to evacuate their homes while to evacuate as crews work to put out the fire.

Those impacted can take shelter in the Prairie Junior High School cafeteria. Everyone is asked to stay indoors and avoid the impacted areas.


SkyCam9 was over the scene and nearby businesses appeared to have suffered some damage as well.

Another fire was burning in Kankakee County Tuesday as well. 

There is a red Flag Warning in the area.  The  threat of wildfires continues. Strengthening southerly winds along with warm temperatures, very low humidity  and widespread dry conditions will be all contribute to fast-spreading fires.
