CHICAGO — A body recovered from the Chicago River Tuesday has been identified as a missing 22-year-old man from Lawndale.

Esteban Uriostigue went missing Friday night after visiting the Jewel-Osco at 2550 N. Clybourn Ave. He used to work at the store, but it is unclear why he might have gone there.

Emergency crews recovered Uriostigue’s body from the North Branch of the river on the 1500 block of West Webster Avenue just before 9 a.m. Tuesday — not too far from where he was last seen.

Family members held a press conference at the Lincoln Methodist Church Monday to plead for answers. They also handed out fliers with his photo and urged anyone with information on his disappearance to come forward.

His family said they are in shock, and they still want answers. His sister, Michelle Uriostique, said her brother was hardworking and was caring and always took care of his mother.

His family said there are many more missing people out there, and they hope their communities come together the way they did for them.

Autopsy results are pending.
