Football season is almost here, and there’s a fever in the air.

Bears fans created a big turnout for Friday night’s first preseason game. Kickoff against the Philadelphia Eagles was at 7 p.m. Before that, fans got into the spirit with the traditional tailgating festivities decked in orange and navy.

Many fans were anxious to see the new Bears play, but some fans said they ran into challenges just trying to make it to Soldier Field.

“Very long and annoying traffic,” said Bears fan Michael Gaughan of Oak Brook, who sat in traffic for about an hour and a half. Yet the drive did not damper his enthusiasm. “I’m very excited, I hope the Bears win.”

Another Bears fan, Sue Pircon, ended up leaving the game.

“It got tied up, and Cutler was taken out,” she said. “All the guys I knew were out, so I figured, let’s go have a drink and watch it on TV.”

Many fans were stuck in traffic, upset because they were extra late for the Bears’ first preseason game.
