Use extreme caution if you go to the beach Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazard statement for the Lake Michigan shoreline.

The weather service is expecting waves of seven to 11 feet– occasionally reaching as high as 13 feet.

Strong rip currents and structural currents are also expected. If you are swimming, they can sweep you into deeper water.

The Beach Hazard statement is in effect through Thursday morning and affects Cook and Lake Counties in Illinois, and Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana.
