Bar Chido gets us ready for Guacamole Day


CHICAGO — We like our food at WGN News Now and we like it so much we’re getting ready for National Guacamole Day early.

Thursday, September 16th, is the big day, but we’re ready to throw down now.

Chef Dan Munoz of Bar Chido in Downers Grove showed us how to make an amazing guacamole and guac inspired cocktail. You can also find them on Facebook & Instagram: @BarChidoDG

Here are the recipes:


5 avocados

1 tbsp chopped cilantro

1 serrano pepper

1 & 1/2 tbsp diced red onion

2 tbsp lime juice (or more to taste)

3/4 tbsp orange juice

Salt to taste

Mix all ingredients together and enjoy!

Guac’s Extra Cocktail

3 avocados and 1 sprig of cilantro, 2 oz of lime juice (that’s the puree)

1 oz of simple syrup (1:1 sugar water)

1.5 oz fresh squeezed lime

2 oz of Patron

Add three avocados, 1 sprig of cilantro and 2 oz lime juice into food processor. Then add puree to simple syrup, 1.5 oz lime and patron. Enjoy!
