Baby Matthew one of the first babies born in Chicago in 2015

The proud parents of the first newborn of 2015 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital are sharing their story of joy.

At 5 lbs, 13 ounces, measuring 20 inches, Matthew Jay Howergreeted the world at 2:04 a.m.

Mom Krystle Hernandez went into labor at the stroke of midnight.

“Midnight hit. … I got up to give my mother-in-law a kiss and my water bag broke.”

Boyfriend Carlos Hower rushed Krystle to the hospital—just in time.

And before they knew it–little Matthew arrived.

Krystle was due on December 30th. Her older daughter was born two months early, so she never thought she’d be getting all this attention.

“It’s exciting,” she said. “I never thought it would happen to me.”

Baby Matthew has three older siblings. Mom and dad say he right now, life feels pretty good.

Krystle says she hopes to get to go home sometime tomorrow.
