CHICAGO —Joe Aurelio, owner of Aurelio’s Pizza, and former Blackhawks star Jeremy Roenick presented Chicago police with the potentially life-saving gift of money to buy new bulletproof vests Sunday.

Aurelio held a fundraiser at a restaurant last month and raised over $8,000, enough to buy 16 bulletproof vests. Aurelio and Roenick presented a giant check to officials at the First District Police Station Sunday.

The donation, made in honor of fallen Chicago police Commander Paul Bauer, will go to a program known as “Get Behind the Vest,” which gives officers money to buy a new bulletproof vest when their current one needs to be replaced.
