UNINCORPORATED DES PLAINES, Ill. — Two people died and six others were injured in a hazardous materials situation in unincorporated Des Plaines.

Multiple fire departments worked on the scene into the night Thursday in the 9400 block of Harrison Street near Potter Road in Maine Township, near Apollo School.

Among those hospitalized were four Cook County sheriff’s deputies. They have since been treated and released.

One person from inside the home has been taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The person who called 911 from the scene was also taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.

Authorities have not elaborated on the nature of the hazardous materials situation.
