NORTH CAROLINA -- An ancient species was discovered in North Carolina that existed before Dinosaurs.
It's scientific name is Carnufex carolinensis. That translates to "Carolina Butcher."
It's a relative of the crocodile that walked upright 230 million years ago.
It was nine feet long and walked on its hind legs.
Its bones were discovered in a quarry in North Carolina.
The first fossil was dug up a decade ago, and its bones have been in the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences ever since.
