Three shot near University of Chicago campus

Chicago, Ill –Three people were shot and wounded around 12:30 a.m. Monday morning near the U of C in the South Side Hyde Park neighborhood.

Two men and a woman were sitting in a parked silver car in an alley in the 5400 block of South Ellis, when a male walked up and fired shots, police said.

According to a security alert sent to University of Chicago students, the three victims are not affiliated with the school.

They made it into a campus parking garage at 55th and Ellis after the shooting, where University police responded.

The woman was shot in the abdomen and chest and was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.

A 24-year-old man was wounded in the chin, chest and left leg and taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

A 35-year-old man was also taken to Stroger for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police did not give a possible motive or make any arrests.

The two men reportedly have documented gang ties.

The shooting happened four blocks away from President Barack Obama’s house in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
