A suburban woman has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities found eight dogs abused and abandoned in her home.

28-year-old Amanda Wise was charged with one count of animal cruelty and eight counts of owner’s duties and obstructing a peace office, after giving authorities a fake name initially, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

Cook County Animal Crimes Unit responded to Wise’s home in the 15400 block of East End Ave in Dolton today after getting a tip of suspected animal neglect. There they found eight pit bull mix dogs outside – in pens, crates and chained to a fence.  One female dog was emaciated.  The other seven were in fair condition, according to a statement from the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

The dogs did not have food or clean drinking water.  There was no signs of dog fighting.

The South Suburban Humane Society took the dogs for treatment.

Wise is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.
