CHICAGO – Chicago police are searching for a suspect in the robbery of a group of 7th graders in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood.

The robbery happened just a block from Dixon Elementary School on 83rd and Rhodes.

Parents say the group was walking home from school Monday when the male suspect approached them. He pointed his gun at a 13-year-old boy and demanded his cell phone. Initially the boy did not want to hand it over but the suspect cocked the gun and the boy gave him the phone.

The suspect fled the scene.

No arrests have been made.

The school sent letters home to 7th grade parents explaining the incident.

Police said the suspect is a black male, 18-22 years old and 5’10 – 6’ tall. He has tattoos on his face.
