The Chicago Tribune reports that police responded late Thursday to shots fired in Harvey and that the vehicles drove away when officers arrived. Shots were exchanged between both vehicles. A person was ejected from one of the vehicles that struck a pole. It was not immediately clear if that person died from the crash or suffered gunshot wounds. Police chased the second vehicle, which also crashed. The driver and passengers ran from the wreck. Officers later found the body of the first victim at the original shooting site. He had been shot multiple times. Two other people also were shot and were being treated at hospitals. In a separate incident in nearby Robbins, five people were shot at a house party in the 14000 block of South Grace Avenue about 10:50 p.m. Thursday. Two people, men ages 32 and 30, were listed in critical condition. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said the Robbins attack was a drive-by shooting. Witnesses told the sheriff’s office that a dark-colored vehicle pulled up, and someone in that car opened fire. According to one witness, nothing suspicious preceded the gunfire. This investigation is ongoing.
