It was a record-breaking day at Loyola University Medical Center where five lung transplants were performed over a 25 hour period.

It took place on May 8th and 9th and one of the operations included a double-lung transplant.

No other Illinois medical center has performed that many lung transplants in such a short time.

Doctors there say it was an amazing day.

It’s unclear if the five lung transplants sets a U.S. record but to give a little perspective, United Network for Organ Sharing officials say there are an average of five lung transplants performed every day across the entire country.
