CHICAGO — Three teenagers were shot, one fatally, on the city’s West Side.

The male victims, ages 13, 17 and 18, were shot around 11 a.m. Tuesday on West End and Lavergne in the South Austin neighborhood.

Fire officials said one teenager was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. The two others were transported to Stroger Hospital in serious-to-critical condition.

The Chicago Fire Department has confirmed the 18-year-old has died.

The shooting adds to a violent start to the week, with three dead and at least 12 wounded in shootings in Chicago since Monday.

One of the other victims was  26-year-old Jonathan Mills, a stand out basketball player at North Lawndale High School who went on to play at Southern Mississippi University and overseas in Europe. He was shot on the West Side in the 4100 block of West Roosevelt Monday afternoon.

Neighbors in the South Austin area say they believe Tuesday’s shooting was the result of gang retaliation, and that they saw the gunmen get out of a dark sedan in a nearby alley — and then jump back in that car to get away.
