3 charged in shooting death of Portage man

Three men are charged after the shooting death of a 36-year old Portage, Indiana man.

Alexius Tapia caught the men breaking into his car early Friday morning.

That's when he confronted them with a gun.

He was then shot in the torso when he tried to lead the men to his front  door so he could call police.

Authorites confirm the gun fired at Tapia was stolen.

Tapia managed to fire back, shooting 18 year old Thomas Reichler in both arms. He was treated at an area hospital.

Tapia died a short time later at the hospital.

The teenagers are identified as 18-year-old Thomas Reichler of Chesterton, 19-year-old Nathaniel Sipe of Westville, and 19-year-old Korey Izynski of Clarksville.

All three are charged with attempted theft and possession of stolen property.

Reichler is charged in the murder.
