2 men severely burned in South Loop chemical explosion

A chemical explosion seriously burned two men just after midnight in a South Loop apartment.

The victims, both 21 years old, suffered burns on their arms and were taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

Area Central detectives are investigating what the men were doing with the chemicals and what the substances were.

The incident happened in a building at 1212 South Michigan Avenue.
