Six people were shot, two of them fatally, early Saturday morning in Gary, Indiana.

The shots were fired along Sunrise Boulevard

Sharod Wainwright is the brother of Vincent Wainwright, the 31-year-old was one of two men killed during the shooting.

“Yup, it’s hard; it’s hard to deal with.  It’s the worst day of my life. To pull up and see him on the ground.. I mean, that’s not the last memory i wanted of my brother,” she said.

18-year-old Da’vaughn Pitts was also killed.  The shooting happened just after 4 O’clock Saturday morning, as a group of neighborhood stood outside a red SUV pulled up and bullets began to fly.

Gary Police Chief Wade Ingram said” We’re still sorting it out.. It may stem from a disturbance earlier in the night.”

Next door to the shooting, bullet holes now scar the exterior.

One neighbor, Deena Taylor, said “My son came to the door first and said “call the police.  There’s been a bunch of people been shot out here.”

She knew both victims—“They’re my neighbors… we’ve been living as neighbors for years. Nice guys.  They grew up with my son we’ve been knowing each other for years.”

She says it’s a normally quiet area– a place she felt safe with her family– until now.  Sharod agrees.

“We grew up on this block. We’ve lived here most of our lives mostly and we should feel most comfortable over here and now i don’t at all. And my brother’s dead because of it.”
