CHICAGO — One woman is dead and three people are critically injured after a fire in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood.
The fire started at about 4:30 a.m. Friday in the 2600 block of W. Cullerton Street.
The woman’s husband, 6-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter are in the hospital in critical condition.
The family lived in the basement apartment of the building.
The upstairs residents were able to escape uninjured.
When firefighters arrived the father was outside the building. Firefighters then rescued the mother, two children and their dog from inside.
Paramedics treated the dog with oxygen at the scene. One neighbor said the dog’s howling is what woke her up.
