Two boys drowned Saturday night near Hobart, Indiana.

Brothers 9-year-old Donel Smith and 8-year-old Terrion Smith went to water hole Saturday night with their 10-year-old uncle DaSean Smith.

The area is known as “The Pit” to neighborhood children. And according to neighbors, the property owner, over the last year, was excavating the area. Even with “No Trespassing” signs posted, kids still came.

The boys were just out of school for the summer.

DaSean tells WGN News it was his first time at The Pit.

“I got up there and I tried to pull them out but I was about to drown too so I got out,” DaSean said. “My friend pulled me out. “

Hobart police are investigating.

The family is having trouble paying for for funeral of both boys. Donations are being accepted at Chase Bank under the name Tatianna Smith.

There were two other drowning reported in the area this weekend.

Yesterday a 4-year-old boy drowned at the Royal Fox Country Club in Saint Charles.

And this afternoon, a 3-year-old girl drowned, reportedly in a backyard pool in Morris.
