Friday is the 10-year anniversary of one of the deadliest natural disasters on record.

On Dec. 26, 2004, a tsunami swept through the Indian Ocean, killing 228,000 people.

That tsunami was triggered by a 9.1 magnitude earthquake.

Survivors and their loved ones are holding ceremonies Friday morning in some of the affected areas including Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India.

Indonesia was the hardest hit -- 170,000 people were killed in the Aceh region alone.
