HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — One person was killed, another person was injured after a collision between a van and tow truck on Interstate 90.
The crash happened around 12:50 a.m. Thursday on westbound I-90 near Barrington Rd. inside a construction zone.
All westbound lanes of Interstate 90 near Hoffman Estates were shut down for hours Thursday morning, but reopened again just before 6 a.m.

State police confirmed the driver of the van was killed. He has been identified as a 79-year-old man from Elgin.
The tow truck driver has been identified as a 46-year-old man, and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
This week marks National Work Zone Awareness Week and the Illinois Secretary of Transportation sent out a warning to drivers, saying:
“If you are on our roads, you will be driving through work zones. We ask you to be constantly alert and aware of your surroundings. The rules are very simple: see orange. Slow down. Save lives.”
