A teenager who was killed at a party in Calumet City was just days away from joining the Army.

19-year-old Dewayne Purnell was one of eight people shot early Sunday morning.

Police say they received a call of shots fired at the residence at 619 Escanaba at around 1:50 a.m.

Authorities say when they arrived they saw a large number of young people running from the house.

Victims were transported to area hospitals by ambulance and by self transport.

Witnesses say the house was hosting a large party where most people aged 15 -21 were smoking marijuana, drinking alcohol.

As many as 150 people packed the home for a party they paid to get into, and that was advertised on social media.

Stripper poles were also seen in the home.

A witness told WGN-TV the fight was gang related.

No one is in custody at this time. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and Calumet City Detectives are investigating.
